Product & Service Reviews

Please send in your review of a farm-related good or service! It can be for a product or service you’ve tried recently or one you’ve used for years.  Reviews can be positive, negative, or comprehensive, but they must be fair and honest.  Please try to write a review that may be helpful for someone considering using that product. If you are recommending a product or service, please include where it can be purchased.  Also include a rating of the product/service from 1-10 (one being worst, 10 being best). Include a photo of the product in use if you would like.  Please do not write reviews for a product or service that you sell or a company you are employed by.  Send your reviews (please include ‘Review’ in your subject heading) to [email protected]

Mayberry with her Z-Tag
Z-Tags are eartags that can be used in cattle of all sizes.  They are one piece rather than two, starting out straight then folding over after piercing.  I have used them on my cattle for about six years, and have not lost a single one to ripping, etc. even when my cattle are out to pasture.  The one piece design seems to help the tag to stay put, since there isn’t the chance of one piece getting lost and in turn losing the second piece.  I have used the yellow and orange tags and they stay readable for many years at long distances, particularly the yellow.  According to the Z-Tag website, there are a variety of colors available.  Tags can also be printed with your farm name, etc. in addition to the numbers, and they can be written on with a marker.  The one drawback with these tags is that the application is slightly complicated and uses a special applicator, but after a little practice, it’s fairly simple.  I have also been pleased with the Z-Tag company as they often run promotions where you can send in to get free tags or a free applicator. I purchase my Z-Tags through the Nasco Farm & Ranch Catalog, but they can also be purchased in a variety of farm stores and online.
